Longboat Quay

Dear Residents,

By now you will be fully aware of the situation in Longboat Quay, where 900 of our neighbours are facing evacuation from their homes as fire regulations were not followed during the building process. The situation is both complex and unconscionable but the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) has not yet responded with a reasonable solution to the problem.

The residents are currently doing everything they can to ensure the situation is resolved fairly and equitably.

We, the Grand Canal Dock Residents Association (GCDRA), want to extend both our sympathy and our support to the residents in their time of need.

This is not just a problem for the residents of Longboat Quay but it is a terrible situation for all residents in the Grand Canal Dock Area. The failure to resolve the issue and the evacuation of Longboat Quay would mean a nightmare scenario for Grand Canal Dock – vacant and abandoned apartments, the closure of local businesses, the loss of employment to the area and the loss of 900 of our friends and neighbours. This is not to mention leaving open the possibility of other residents being left with bills for similar building defects should further problems come to light in adjoining units.

We ask that, as residents of Grand Canal Dock, you join us in supporting our neighbours and demonstrate the community spirit on which our association was founded. Please help by

  • DISCUSSING the issue with local businesses and encouraging them call on the DDDA and Dublin City Council (DCC) to resolve the problem.
  • SPREAD THE MESSAGE at public meetings. Write to local TD’s, Cllrs and Government representatives to express your concerns.
  • SIGN THE PETITION – uplift.ie have started a petition to compel DDDA Chief Owen Keegen to cover the full costs of repair, making the building and area safe and engage with residents in a fair and open manner.

Below is the link to the Longboat Quay petition. Please Sign, Tweet, Like, Ping and share the https://uplift.ie/longboat-quay/ link to friends, family and neighbours and show your support for the community.

Kind Regards

GCDRA Update No. 2 – AGM and Safety Issues

Hello Everyone,

The GCDRA now have a date for our AGM. Please make a note in your diaries for the 21st October 2015. Further details to follow.

Also, some of you have contacted us recently regarding safety and noise problems in the area caused by some of the teenagers visiting GCD. We are aware of the issue and would ask that residents keep note of every incident and call Pearse St Garda Station when they witness a problem. The Garda have suggested to us that video or camera footage taken by residents is also useful and should be forwarded on.  Essentially the message is that we need to keep reporting these incidents so that the Garda can build a case to justify a greater presence in the area.
With this in mind, you may have noticed some signs posted in the area from the management company Bilfinger. They have set up a confidential number where you can call or text to report anti-social behaviour, in addition to contacting the Gardai.
The number is 086 040 5412.
Below is a picture of the notice with further details for your information.
